The Libyan Interior Minister of the Government of National Accord Fathi Bashagha said Libya was left alone to face the complications of illegal immigration, which cost the country lots of money.
Bashagha added in a conference on human trafficking: "combating human trafficking networks and precautionary measures to stop immigrants' influx", that the European Union still lacked a clear and unified vision toward fighting illegal immigration, saying via video conference on Monday that Libya proposed to include south Sudan, Chad, Mali, and Niger in the "combating illegal immigration file".
The Interior Minister said there should be a unified strategy for security regarding illegal immigration as Libya is considered the key to stability in the region, saying there are human trafficking groups are intentionally targeting Libya.
"We have called on the European Union to provide Libya with electronic surveillance equipment for our borders. We are still ready to cooperate with the European Union in anti-drugs efforts and combating organized crime." Bashagha indicated.
Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania's interior ministers have all taken part in the video conference along with top European Union officials.
