A news report by Dhaka Tribune newspaper cited Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, Shahriar Alam, as saying that Bangladeshi nationals will be banned from going to Libya over security and safety reasons.

The report added that the Bangladeshi government is constantly making sure that its workforce abroad and will do what it takes to bring them back home safe if their lives are jeopardized in any country.

“What often hinders bringing back our nationals back home is the process of identity check.” The FM was reported as saying.

Many Bangladeshi laborers who worked in Libya have been subject to assaults and abduction by criminal gangs, armed militias from different warring parties across Libya and by IS militants.
