The head of the Bakers Syndicate, Akhras Muhammad, has said that they only have a one-month supply of wheat stock, noting that they had warned three years ago that there is no strategic stock of wheat and that bakers are obtaining their needs of flour through merchants, for 227 dinars per quintal.

Muhammad told a local news outlet that they agreed with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy to assign a committee to examine the actual cost of a loaf of bread.

"We targeted 120 bakeries and reached several findings that we will submit next Sunday to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and the government to come up with a solution to the lack of wheat."

Akhras Muhammad said that Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah listened during his visit to some bakery shops to several opinions and suggested providing governmental support.

The PM's proposed plan stipulates that the government subsidizes each wheat shipment with $190 provided that the bakers buy the flour at 110 dinars and thus, the bread would be sold for ten loaves per dinar, but according to Muhammad, the bakers said that such measures would not cover the cost of their work.
