An unknown armed group has kidnapped three people after opening fire on several others in Ghadduwah in southern Libya, sources from the town have reported.

The sources added that the armed group entered in a heavily armed convoy of about 10 vehicles, adding that the vehicles "appeared to have logos similar to those of ISIS."

They indicated that the armed group stormed into houses of two persons and ended up detaining them along with a third one from Ghadduwah town, which later descended into calm.

The head of the municipal council in the town Masoud Abdelsalam told reporters that the armed convoy was not identified, adding that one person was injured by their fire and he was sent to Sabha Medical Center.

Ghadduwah and Taraghen in south Libya were subject to attacks by some gunmen who could be from ISIS or Chadian rebels or even Libyan gangs in the region.

Khalifa Haftar's self-styled army launched last January an operation to "cleanse the south of criminals and terrorists, thus seizing control of most of the south but failing to exact law and order.
