A source from Jadu Municipality has revealed that the municipal councils of several Amazigh towns in the Western Mountain (Nafousa Mountain) are intending to withdraw their recognition of the Presidential Council (PC), installed by the UN Mission in Libya as per the Libyan Political Agreement.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source told the Amazigh news agency of Fassato that the recent resolutions issued by head of PC, Fayaz Sirraj, that included the establishment of a university in Zintan town and the appointment of a military officer from Zintan as chief of the Western Military Zone have prompted the municipalities of Kabaw, Jadu, Nalut, Yefran, Al-Qalah and Wazin to take action in protest against these resolutions that could “bring instability to the region.”

The Amazigh towns are making pressure to retract these two resolutions while accusing the PC of neglecting Amazigh areas.

The source added that the Amazigh municipal councils would take further steps if their demands were not met.

Earlier, Fassato reported that military officers from the Amazigh community are planning to declare a military council for Libyan Amazigh in protest against actions of Presidential Council.
