The Minster of Justice at Al-Thanni government of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives urged the INTERPOL office in Egypt and the Egyptian judiciary to cancel the wanted list that they received on October 31, 2011, asking them to take the names of the persons banned from travel off the list.

The Minster stressed that the wanted persons mustn’t be handed to what he described as “the outlaw authorities in control of security departments in Libya”, in a clear indication of the judicial authorities in Tripoli, telling the Egyptian authorities that he would appreciate it if they approved his request given the difficult circumstances of the persons on the list, he added.

“All the accusations pointed at the wanted persons were politically-oriented and were put without investigating the persons – Gaddafi’s regime figures – only because of their political views and positions.” The Minister indicated.

This is not the first act Al-Thanni government and the HoR do and thus reveal their firm ties with former regime figures. The former Justice Minister of the same government also sent a letter to Zintan calling for the release of Gaddafi’s son, Saif Al-Islam under the pretext of HoR’s amnesty ordinance. Both now and then Al-Thanni government’s Justice Ministers also contacted Lebanese authorities calling for the release of Hannibal Gaddafi, Muamar’s son who is detained in Lebanon.

Similarly, the government and the HoR received many former regime henchmen who were in exile in Egypt and other countries and who are wanted by the Libyan judiciary. One of them is Al-Tayeb Al-Safi, who is a very important figure of Gaddafis regime and whose return was heroically celebrated in Tobruk and elsewhere in the east even though he is still wanted for the General Prosecutor’s Office in Tripoli over crimes against the Libyan people.
