The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj arrived in Malta on Wednesday to discuss the security and illegal migration issues that are affecting Mediterranean-overlooking countries.

Maltese newspapers reported the meeting between Al-Sirraj and Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

Before meeting Al-Sirraj, Muscat was cited as saying that they would be reviewing illegal migration issues, and better coordination between Malta and Libya in fighting this phenomenon on all levels, besides the ways the migrants are treated in Europe and Libya.

Al-Sirraj, on the other hand, said Libya is interested in reviewing the economic and illegal migration issues with the government of Malta.

The trip by Al-Sirraj to Malta came amid a current crisis of illegal immigration lingering in the countries located on the coasts of the Mediterranean with recently 49 immigrants being turned down by Malta and European countries and left to Saturday on boats in international waters.
