The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has discussed with the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio the latest developments in Libya, including the illegal immigration issues.

The Italian Foreign Minister, who arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday, renewed his country's support for the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Berlin conference conclusions, especially the ending of external interventions and consolidating the ceasefire.

Al-Sarraj said halting interventions and the commitment of the aggressor to the Berlin conference conclusions need a strict stance by the international community, otherwise; the influx of arms to the aggressor will continue.

The two officials talked about the blockade of oil production and exports by Haftar's forces and the ways to resolve this issue. They also discussed joint coordination in combatting illegal immigration.

Di Maio also met with the Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha, who reiterated that Libya rejects the settlement of immigrants on its territory.

Answering the Italian questions about security in the country, Bashagha said Haftar's war is still ongoing and the ceasefire is fragile as Tripoli is being targeted almost daily, which could "lead to a new explosion".
