Al-Obidat tribe in eastern Libya has held Al-Furjan, Khalifa Hafter's, and Al-Hasa tribes responsible for the kidnapping of tribesman Al-Siddiq Al-Ghaiti, the former Undersecretary of Defense Ministry in Al-Keeb government

Sheikh of Al-Obidat Faraj Bu Hassan called for the release of Al-Ghaiti in three days’ time, warning that his tribe would otherwise escalate protests and sits-in to cover the entire eastern region of Libya.

Tribesmen from Al-Obidat have already staged a protest in Alizyat area, 150km to the west of Tobruk. The angry protesters blocked the road that links Tobruk with the rest of coastal areas, the only way for fuel supplies to Haftar’s forces.

Bu Hassan also threatened to block airports and military bases in eastern region as well as the oil and gas pipelines to Tobruk oil depot if Al-Ghaiti was not freed.

He said Al-Obidat tribe and its allies are able to turn the whole area from Labraq to Musaid, near the borders of Egypt, out of the government control.

Relatives of Al-Siddiq Al-Ghaiti have warned of a civil war in eastern Libya if he was not released.

Al-Siddiq Al-Ghaiti, a former Gaddafi prisoner, was kidnapped last week in Soussa town after welcoming a delegation from Misrata, which met with elders and dignitaries from the eastern region.
