The Head of the Libyan National Center for Disease Control, Badr Al-Deen Al-Najjar, has said that 18 municipalities are now ready to receive Coronavirus Sputnik V vaccines and that the center has been preparing the vaccination centers to meet the required procedures for storing and then giving the vaccines.

Al-Najjar said the vaccination campaign will start in two days and told Libya Al-Rasmiya TV that they have received 253 thousand doses of Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccine so far, which are now stored at the medical supply apparatus storages awaiting approval for use, reiterating that the Sputnik V vaccine needs 18 degrees below zero for storage and that took some work before sending it to vaccination centers.

He added that the vaccination campaign will be kicked off through the registration on the assigned website, urging all Libyans to register for taking the vaccine, adding that so far, only 450.000 people have registered but hoped that more Libyans would join soon, and added that Sputnik V vaccine will be given to under-60 people while AstraZeneca will be given to above-60 ones.

"Sputnik V is the most used vaccine in tens of countries, has very few side effects and has efficiency that reached 90%. The center launched a campaign in cooperation with UNICEF to monitor the vaccination process in all of the municipalities." Al-Najjar said.
