The Head of the high Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri, accused Friday foreign parties and ambassadors of meddling in the electoral process and of pressuring the High National Elections Commission as well as the HoR and the Supreme Judicial Council to hold elections with flawed laws, saying December 24 elections cannot be held on time.
Al-Mishri unveiled in an interview with Libya Alahrar TV that the UN Secretary General’s Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, is going to announce a plan "to save the electoral process", saying the plan is going to be announced next week.
He indicated that there must be full consensus between the House of Representatives and the HCS to end the political stalemate and that could happen by issuing consensual election laws, saying the High National Elections Commission isn't capable of holding elections and there's a battle between the commission and the judiciary.
Speaking about presidential election candidates, he reaffirmed that the US is opposed to the candidacy of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, while Russia insists he must run, adding that foreign intervention in elections has reached an unacceptable limit, saying Egypt and the UAE support Haftar or Aqila Saleh and Turkey and France support Fathi Bashagha.
He also referred to the chaos in accepting candidates due to the flawed election law of the House of Representatives without consensus with the HCS, saying there are three candidates who are bringing controversy to the race: Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, Haftar and Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, adding that some parties don't want some of them to run.
