The head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mishri, welcomed Saturday the agreement reached by the participants to the Libyan Political dialogue Forum to hold national elections on 24 December 2021, which marks the independence day anniversary in Libya.
Al-Mishri called for the constitutional referendum to be held before the date set for elections, proposing that the referendum on the draft constitution should take place on February 17.
The HCS head emphasized the council’s keenness to move forward towards stability on a solid foundation after all the crises and sufferings the country has gone through, according to his statement.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Council (PC) member Mohammed Ammari Zayed confirmed that December 24 of next year would be a celebration of independence day coupled with the holding of elections.
"As we have emphasized before in our initiative, which we announced last September, holding elections is the starting point for the solution of the Libyan problem," Zayed added, underscoring that such an agreement would bring fresh hope for the nation.
The UN mission announced on Friday that the participants of the Libyan Political dialogue Forum agreed that the date of the national elections in Libya should be on 24 December 2021.
