The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, met with Italian envoy Nicholas Orlando, and the Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, and discussed the political situation in the country as Al-Lafi reiterated the need to hold Libyan elections this year, in addition to the importance of continuing with national reconciliation efforts of the Presidential Council.

The Italian envoy reiterated that his country was looking forward to seeing the amendments of the parliament to the roadmap that paves the way for holding elections, saying Rome was closely watching the situation in Libya and had always been keen on its stability and sovereignty.

“Italy wants to help Libya end its transitional period and enter the phase of an elected president by the people.” The Italian envoy added.

Meanwhile, Al-Lafi said the Libyan people are working hard to reach the day on which elections will be held and are looking forward to having a roadmap that is now being devised by the parliament, adding that the roadmap should be clear in terms of dates of elections and all other processes, including handing over power.
