Vice President of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, and the UN Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis have reiterated the importance for all foreign fighters to leave Libya, stressing the need to develop a strategy through which they are returned to their countries with the participation of the concerned states.
A statement by the PC's media office noted that Kubis expressed to Al-Koni his optimism about the latter's visit to Sudan and Chad last week, in which he discussed border security, curbing illegal immigration, and combating terrorism.
Al-Koni reiterated to the UN envoy that evacuating foreign fighters from the country is a priority because it "guarantees the security of the southern Libyan borders with neighboring countries," and the creation of a partnership to prevent migration, smuggling, and infiltration of criminal gangs, and this would ensure peace and stability in the region, as he put it.
He also affirmed the Presidential Council's commitment to go forward with the preparations for December’s presidential and parliamentary elections, including creating the appropriate conditions for this important event.
Looking ahead, Kubis joined Al-Koni in his call to engage neighboring countries of Libya in the ongoing peace process, and their participation in any future meetings, according to the PC media office.
