Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, said that Turkey is doing its utmost to help its Libyan brothers, in order to bring about a ceasefire, stability and territorial integrity in Libya.

Akar's remarks came during a special ceremony organized by the Ministry of Defense on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, on Wednesday.

During his speech, he stressed the brotherhood links between the two countries. "We maintain historic cooperative ties with our Libyan brothers since 500 years," he said.

He emphasized that Turkey is eager to see Libya at peace with a background of secure conditions created, insisting that they are dealing with the Libyan issue on the grounds that Libya is for Libyans.

"We strive to see a cease-fire, security, political stability, and territorial integrity prevail in Libya. We are maritime neighbours, and are bound by history, values, and the principles of coexistence," Akar explained.

On the Turkish support to the GNA, Akar clarified that Turkey is providing the forces of the legitimate government, recognized by the United Nations with training, consultations assistance, and other support in the military field, indicating that Turkey's support has tipped the scale of power, after Khalifa Haftar's forces were on the verge of controlling Tripoli.

With respect to the relative calm prevailing in Libya at the present time, he said that his country will continue its efforts to make the ceasefire hold, and thus to secure stability in Libya.

Earlier, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stressed, in a speech on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, that Turkey is determined to "crown its struggle" that extends from Syria and Iraq to Libya by a victory, describing it to be a victory for Turkey and its brotherly nations in the region.
