The US Embassy in Libya emphasized the need for a unified, stable Libya with control over its borders after media reports indicated the movement of armed non-governmental groups into Chad from Libya.

The embassy confirmed that the United States will continue to engage Libyan and international stakeholders to support the political process culminating in the December elections, saying it  "will help consolidate a sovereign and secure Libya free from foreign interference in the interest of regional stability and the security of its neighbours."

The Agence France-Presse (AFP) quoted Chadian government spokesman Chérif Mahamat Zene as saying that the security forces are hunting a group of Libya-based rebels who entered the Chadian borders lately.

Zene explained that a group of heavily armed vehicles crossed the border from Libya and attacked the border post at Zouarké on April 11th, citing that this was the result of international pressure and demands for the departure of all foreign mercenaries from Libya, as he put it.
