Africa Report magazine said there is a proposal by the United States for staggered elections in Libya that will end in September 2022 to save the roadmap.
The magazine said the US proposal was presented to P3+2 countries (France, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom), which are Libya stakeholders, adding that the proposal hasn't been made public yet.
The proposal says it will make Libyan parties commit to December 24 elections along with parliamentary elections and then a second round on September 15, 2022, adding that the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah wants to run for president in the upcoming elections despite the fact that the UN-brokered roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum prohibits state positions' occupants from doing so.
Africa Report reported sources as saying that Dbeibah is against the US proposal and is pushing to extend the mandate of his government since he was appointed in last February. It added that a spokesman for the government refused to comment.
