The Administrative Control Authority has confirmed its follow-up to the allegations concerning about the signing of an international agreement that violate Islamic law, in reference to the signing of the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Houria Tarmal, of what is known as the CEDAW agreement with the United Nations.

The Authority said in a statement on Tuesday, that it had taken several legal measures represented in summoning the Minister of State for Women's Affairs, to discuss the backgrounds that led to this agreement.

It also pointed out to the contradictory information that had been circulated on social media, which saying that the signing was not on the CEDAW agreement ratified with reservation since 1989, it was just a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“Not to submit the draft of MoU to the High Council of State (HCS) to give its advice on it, and the authorities with sharia jurisdiction represented by the Fatwa House, to indicate whether or not it is compatible with the provisions of Islamic Sharia, is contrary to the law”, the statement reads.

The Authority requested the formation of a committee from the HCS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Fatwa House to study the signed MoU, within the framework of the provisions of Islamic law, and to make recommendations regarding it for presentation to the House of Representatives and the Council of Ministers.
