The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) and the former Deputy Prime Minister, Mustafa Abu Shagour, said Egyptian airstrikes on Libya are a violation of sovereignty, adding that it is a crime against civilians.

On his Facebook page, Abu Shagour said Egypt has clearly declared war on Libyans by attacking Derna under baseless excuses.

"Throughout the last three years, Egypt has taken up a strategy that aims to destroy Libya, so it provided the war criminal Khalifa Haftar with weapons and expertise and now it is directly entering the battlefield killing civilians and destroying cities." He wrote.

He urged the Presidential Council, the HoR and the High Council of State to submit an official complaint at the UN Security Council to discuss the Egyptian atrocious violation of Libya's sovereignty and to punish Egypt for it."

Egyptian warplanes conducted a number of air attacks on Libya's territory as what Egypt said a retaliation for Egyptian Copts who were killed in IS terror attack in Minya, however; observers say that those airstrikes were a means for Egypt to escape interior dilemmas and to find a way to support its ally, Khalifa Haftar, to toughen his grip on the eastern region.
