GNC President Nuri Abu Sahmain said on Thursday that appointment of outgoing Chief of UN Mission in Libya Bernardino Leon in the UAE, which is involved in the Libyan conflict, prompts an unprecedented suspicion.

In a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Abu Sahmain said approving Leon's proposals following his new appointment is disrespectful to the martyrs.

"The timing of this appointment, when Libyans are asked to accept and approve this mediator's proposals represents a disregard for the Libyan people's blood and their sacrifices during the 17 February revolution." He clarified.

Abu Sahmain asked Ban Ki-moon and members of the UNSC to clarify their stances on Leon's appointment in the UAE, which casts doubts over the role of UN mission in Libya and undermines the political process.

Bernardino Leon has been offered a £35,000-a-month job by the UAE as director general of UAE diplomatic academy.

Ban Ki-moon has officially appointed German diplomat Martin Kobler a successor to Leon.
