Seven Libyan political parties have pronounced grave concern over the intention of several countries to use Libya's frozen assets after the UK's House of Common said it intended to do so to compensate Irish Republican Army (IRA) victims.

The parties called in a joint statement on Thursday on the UNSMIL to have a clear stance regrind this issue as it is blindingly obvious violation of the UN Security Council resolutions.

The statement also called for a stance by the Libyan official bodies to have contacts with the Arab, EU, US and African countries where Libya has frozen assets and investments and tell them to look into the dire crises the country is going through.

Signatories include National Forces Alliance, Justice and Construction, Al-Wattan, Shabab Al-Wasat Bloc, Al-Taghyeer, and National Democratic Bloc.

"Such use, if it happened, would have no moral, political, or legal basis, it would only be a way around the UNSC resolution." The joint statement reads, saying the UK's intention to use Libya's frozen funds is one case in point, knowing that Libya settled the issue of the IRA at the time of the former regime.

"No entity in Libya can issue a decision to let go with the frozen funds. To do that, the entity should be constitutional and democratically elected as per a constitution approved by all Libyans. Such a decision shall only go through the voting of an elected and constitutional parliament." the statement remarks.

They also called on the current internationally-recognized authorities in Libya to take up responsibility and be transparent with the Libyan people, calling them to take the issue to the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court.
