Work began on Sunday to remove a large rubbish dump adjacent to the South Tripoli gas-fired power station.
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) had complained about the rubbish dump and attributed several blackouts to it.
According to a statement issued by the GEOCL, this dump is one of the major problems faced by the power station and its personnel, over a long period of time.
The statement pointed out that the accumulation of rubbish, its subsequent setting on fire and the emissions of thick fumes released as a result of the burning has caused the breakdown of turbines, leading to frequent blackouts.
