The UN Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, called for honoring the right of the Libyan people to democratically elect those who govern them through the ballot box in the context of a firm constitutional framework, adding that it is also critical that calm on the ground is maintained.

These remarks came in a meeting with the US Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs of Department of State, Yael Lempert, in Tunisia on Saturday, according to tweets by Williams.

Williams said she had agreed with Lempert on the need for the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) on the constitutional track, which is due to commence their second round of talks tomorrow in Cairo, to produce tangible results.
