The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, met on Wednesday with several presidential candidates in the capital Tripoli to discuss developments of the electoral process.

"I met today and yesterday in Tripoli with a number of presidential candidates to discuss ways to protect and advance the electoral process and ensure that the Libyan people are given the opportunity to choose their leadership," Williams tweeted on Wednesday.

Earlier, the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) suggested postponing Friday's elections by a month to January 24, after a parliamentary committee tasked with overseeing the electoral process said it was "impossible" to hold the first round of presidential polls, as originally scheduled on December 24.
