The World Health Organization (WHO) has distributed the first batch of essential drugs to six primary health care centres in Libya as part of the project "Improving Primary Health Care Services in Libya" funded by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID).

The WHO said that it had successfully completed the distribution of the first batch of essential drugs to six selected primary health care centres located in the eastern, western and southern parts of Libya, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Presidential Council.

The shipment contained a variety of medicines, including medicines used to treat non-communicable diseases at the primary health care level. WHO confirmed that the medicines and medical supplies distributed will cover approximately the need of 19,000 beneficiaries for three months, noting that the purchase of the second and third batch of medicines and medical supplies is currently underway.
