The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Libya, Elizabeth Hof, has met with the head of the pediatric oncology department at the Tripoli University Hospital, Fathiya Al-Riyani, to discuss building the capacity of health care staff.

Hof confirmed that WHO has examined the list of cancer drugs that will be provided to the oncology departments of university hospitals in Tripoli and Benghazi.

WHO signed last January an agreement worth millions of dollars with the National Oil Corporation and its international partners Eni, Repsol and Total to enhance treatment services for children with cancer.

This funding will ensure that 722 children registered for cancer treatment in the main children's hospitals in Tripoli and Benghazi will receive specialized care over a period of 18 months.
