The United States has welcomed the resumption of direct flights between Tripoli and Egypt after similar agreements with other regional capitals.

"We encourage and support all efforts toward facilitating safe travel and Libya's reintegration into the regional economy," the US Embassy in Libya tweeted on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, EgyptAir's first flight arrived at Mitiga International Airport after a seven-year hiatus.

The airlines also announced the start of a series of flights between Mitiga and Sharm El Sheikh airports starting from August 9.

These flights are scheduled to continue until October 11th to transport Libyan tourists to Sharm el-Sheikh, according to EgyptAir.
