The US Deputy State Department spokesman, Robert Palladino said the United States is concerned over the continuing tensions in southern Libya, which has prolonged the closure of vital oil fields and deprived the Libyans of the country's major economic resource.

In a statement Thursday, Palladino called on all parties for the prompt elaboration of a joint security arrangement to ensure the safety of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) workers and allow the resumption of oil production in Sharara field as soon as possible.

He also called for these vital resources to remain under the supervision and control of the NOC and the Presidential Council's government, as stipulated in the UN Security Council resolutions.
