The US Justice Department said the Libyan national Mustafa Al-Imam had been sentenced for over 19 years in jail upon charges of attacking the US consulate in Benghazi in 2012, when the US ambassador Christopher Stevens was killed along with three personnel.

The Prosecutor of Washington D.C. said Al-Imam played an important role in the attack that destroyed the US consulate and the CIA post nearby in Benghazi, using machine guns and grenades with other gunmen, who all set the consulate on fire leading to the suffocation of the US ambassador.
