The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, has called for an investigation into the disappearance of MP Siham Sergiwa, who was abducted from her home in Benghazi three years ago and demanded prosecution for those responsible for her disappearance.

"No one should be silenced or disappear because of exercising their freedom of speech. Siham Sergiwa is no exception, Norland said in a tweet published on the US embassy account on Wednesday.

Representative Sergiwa has disappeared since July 17, 2019, after giving an interview to the pro-Haftar TV channel, Libya Al-Hadath.

During the interview, MP Sergiwa criticized Haftar's war against Tripoli at the time, after which armed men stormed her home, and Sergiwa's fate remained unknown since that day.
