The United States has welcomed the Libyan ceasefire deal signed at the Joint Military Commission (JMC) talks in Geneva, saying it would set the stage for further progress in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum set to take place next week.

In a statement on its embassy's website in Libya yesterday, the US congratulated the parties on "the successful outcome" of their negotiations, and Acting UN mission head in Libya, Stephanie Williams, for her" indispensable role" in facilitating the talks.

"This agreement is a major step forward towards realizing the shared interests of all Libyans in de-escalation, stability, and the departure of foreign fighters," the statement reads, urging all internal and external actors to support good-faith implementation of this agreement.
