The US Embassy in Libya has welcomed the National oil Cooperation's (NOC) announcement of resuming production at the Sharara field.

In a statement on its official Facebook page on Sunday, the US embassy considered this development "a significant step forward" that would enable the NOC to fulfill its crucial and apolitical mandate to promote the interests of all Libyans.

It called for an end to the five-month long shutdown of Libya’s energy sector saying that it was "needless" in the first place.

The statement stressed that time has come for all responsible parties to reject attempts to militarize the energy sector, divide Libya’s economic institutions, and subjugate critical infrastructure to foreign interests.
