The Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Libya, Josh Harris, has praised the Libyan government's efforts regarding the transfer of some responsibilities of the ministries to the municipal councils, in order to enable them to improve the services provided to citizens.

In his meeting with the Presidential Council (PC) member, Mohamed Amari Zayed, and Minister of Local Government, Milad Taher, in Tunis, on Saturday, Harris pointed out that the United States is ready to cooperate with the Government of National Accord (GNA) in all the files related to shifting towards decentralization.

Both sides focused on expected outcomes from the “Libya Local Governance Forum”--sponsored by USAID, the World Bank, and the Germany cooperation agency (GIZ)—consisting of local officials from across Libya as well as highlighting USAID’s expanding support to Libyan municipal governments with a focus on improved financial management and service delivery.
