The United States Embassy in Libya, expressed Wednesday its deep concern about the shelling of Murzuq town, southwest of Libya, including the aerial attack conducted on August 5, which resulted in the death and injury of a large number of civilians.

In a statement, the embassy urged the parties to the conflict in Libya to halt the military escalation immediately and stop attacks against Mitiga Airport, saying that it threats the pilgrims traveling for Hajj and the safety and security of the civil aviation traffic.

It also called on all parties to step up their efforts to protect civilians and to return expeditiously to the UN-brokered political process.
