Commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Commander Tod D. Wolters has praised "Turkey's important role" in countering Russian influence in the Middle East.

In his brief before the Armed Services Committee of the American Congress, Wolters said that the conflict between Moscow and Ankara continues in Libya, noting they are also in direct confrontation in Syria.

The US commander called for cooperation with Turkey in this path, either through NATO or through bilateral relations.

"Joint cooperation between the US and Turkey against Russia would serve the long-term interests of both countries in the region," Wolters said.
