The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has welcomed the establishment of the Women's Empowerment and Support Unit, headed by Laila Lafi and Hanan Al Fakhri as chairperson and deputy.
The mission called on the Presidential Council and the international community to invest in and support the new unit's function, according to a UNSMIL Tweet on Wednesday.
The UNSMIL considered that this development is an important focal step for women in Libya especially that it coincides with the celebrations of the 18th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, which is currently taking place around the world.
