The Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Raisedon Zenenga, and the presidential candidate, Ahmed Maiteeq, have stressed the importance on advancing the electoral process as a priority, overcoming the legal and political challenges encountered, and determining a realistic date for elections.

This came during their meeting on Tuesday, during which Zenenga heard from Maiteeq on the recent meeting in Benghazi among key Libyan actors which focused on reconciliation and widening such dialogue.

The UNSMIL described the Benghazi meeting “a positive and welcome initiative as part of efforts towards achieving a political settlement and establishing an atmosphere conducive to peaceful, inclusive, credible, free and fair elections”, according the UNSMIL official Facebook page.
