The Coordinator of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Raisedon Zenenga, reiterated the necessity of holding the upcoming elections on their scheduled date, December 24.

“This is imperative as it reflects on the status of peace and stability within Libya.” He says.

Zenenga met with the head of the High National Electoral Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, in Tripoli on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in the electoral process, developments in the political scene and its consequences on the process, with less than a fortnight left until the official onset of the polling date.

The meeting also dealt with the operational progress achieved by the HNEC by completing the stage of candidate registration and preparations which covers all aspects of training and logistical work, according to a statement issued by the HNEC.
