The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said on Saturday that it is making every effort with all domestic and foreign parties to avoid a military escalation in Tripoli and to protect civilians.

In a brief statement, the mission called on the Libyan parties to respect international humanitarian law, which prohibits the targeting of civilians and health facilities, reminding them of the consequences of violating this law.

The UNSMIL statement came after statements issued by the Presidential Council (PC) and the High Council of State (HCS), regarding information of a possible military escalation by Haftar's forces, with direct support from France, the UAE, and Egypt.
