The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed its avid support of the electoral process in Misrata, indicating that the elections demonstrated, yet again, the determination of the Libyan people to exercise their democratic voting rights.
The Special Acting Representative of the Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, called on all Libyan citizens to take seriously the registration and participation process in the upcoming local elections.
Misrata held municipal council elections last Thursday, which were successfully organized, in contrast to the failed process in several cities, due to gunmen, loyal to Haftar, attacked the polling stations, undermining due process.
