The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed concern regarding the continuing violence in the city of Sabha and called on all parties to refrain from acts that endanger the lives of civilians.

The UNSMIL warned in a statement on Wednesday that the increasing presence of armed groups in the south is edging the region closer to an increasingly dangerous situation, calling on all parties to work towards a ceasefire agreement and promote dialogue and reconciliation efforts, and refrain from rhetoric that could fuel the situation.

Sabha has been descended into clashes for more than two weeks, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries, including women and children.
