The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salame, accused the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) of obstructing the elections because they perceive it as a threat to them.

"To both Houses, elections are a threat that must be resisted at all costs," Salame said during his briefing to the Security Council.

"To the citizens, elections are a means of liberation from the ineffective and increasingly illegitimate authorities," Salame added, pointing out that more than 80 percent of Libyans insist on holding elections according to the latest poll conducted by the UN mission.
