The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has procured and delivered half a million doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to Libya for distribution to health facilities across the country, in close partnership with the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs).

“The wild poliovirus remains a potential threat if vaccination is neglected or discontinued. There is no cure for polio. It can only be prevented. That prevention is only possible through polio vaccine”, UNICEF said on its Facebook page.

“Since 1991, Libya has been considered a polio-free country thanks to its robust immunization program, no cases have been reported since then”, the UNICEF added.
