The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has expressed its concern over what it said "use of violence" against scores of migrants during protests at the Sikkah shelter last week.

"Around 120 migrants were transferred from the Sikkah shelter to other centres in Ain Zara and Al-Saba'a area after the protests," UNHCR stated.

It also expressed concern over lacking access to the affected migrants, calling on the Libyan authorities to put an end to the detention, according to the statement.

The organization confirmed its readiness to support Libya to find alternatives to detention, saying that there are about 5,700 refugees and migrants accommodated in shelters in Libya.
