The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed on Wednesday that the number of victims of refugees embarking on the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Europe has more than doubled since last year, owing to the decline in rescue missions.

In a report broadcasted by the German channel DW, UNHCR clarified that the mortality rate of those who attempted to cross to Europe via Libya in 2018, was 1 per 14 migrants, while the rate did not exceed 1 per 38, in 2017.
