The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that 1.1 million internally displaced persons and families affected by armed clashes in Libya need humanitarian assistance worth 85 million US dollars.

UNHCR Director for the Middle East and North Africa Bureau and Regional Refugee Coordinator, Amin Awad, described the humanitarian situation in Libya in a press conference in Tunis on Thursday as “critical”, saying that health and education services are not available in most areas in the country.

Awad pointed out that the need of some Libyans for humanitarian aid has forced them to leave their villages to other areas voluntarily or forcibly, adding that there is a need to bring peace in Libya.
