The UNHCR disclosed Monday that the number of people who have fled their homes because of armed clashes in Libya has amounted to more than 300 thousand people.

"More than 44,000 refugees and asylum seekers are registered with UNHCR in Libya," the UNHCR clarified.

It pointed out that since November 2017, around 9,892 refugees arrived in Italy, most of them have reached Italian shores illegally by sea.

The numbers of those evacuated from Libya have exceeded 5,000 refugees, while 760 of them have been resettled in a third country, according to the UNHCR, though it gave no further information on the rest of the refugees.
