The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi stressed that Libya is not a safe country to send migrants to, adding that a mechanism must be developed for the distribution of migrants arriving on Italian shores to avoid crises such as the recent with the Coast Guard vessel Ubaldo Diciotti.
Earlier, the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has appealed to the European Union to increase their share of migrants, arguing that Italy is not receiving any help from the EU countries.
