The UNHCR confirmed Thursday the evacuation of 149 refugees and asylum seekers from the most vulnerable groups from Libya to Italy.

The evacuees, including 65 children, were of Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia, according to UNHCR statement, adding that the evacuation was carried out in cooperation with the Libyan and Italian authorities.

It also stressed that many of the evacuees were in need of treatment because of the malnutrition they suffered during their stay in the shelters.
