The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) disclosed Monday that it had evacuated 117 migrants and asylum seekers from Libya to Kigali, capital of Rwanda.

The UNHCR described the evacuation process as successful.

The refugees received a warm welcome at Kigali airport and will be hosted at the Gashura Transit Centre, according to the UNHCR website.

The UN organization announced earlier an agreement with the Rwandan government to host refugees in Libya temporarily until relocating them in a third country.
